The Supplier Quality/Sustaining Engineer will play a key role in maintaining a consistent flow of raw materials from overseas and domestic suppliers to the manufacturing floor ensuring only quality products are built and shipped. This position will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and quality as well as upper management to resolve supply chain issues as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Walk manufacturing facility daily addressing issues in real time with supervisors and employees
  • Preform and lead root cause analysis to decide if issue is due to assembly or raw material supply
  • Determine if raw material is to be returned, reworked, used as-is or scrapped
  • Design rework fixtures, jigs, instructions, ext. when necessary as well as train staff to preform rework
  • Effectively convey quality issues to domestic and overseas suppliers including creating and editing existing CAD files and drawings
  • Working with domestic and overseas suppliers to create sustainable corrective actions as we well as follow up to ensure corrective action is being executed
  • Evaluate current and prospective suppliers including domestic and overseas site visits and audits
  • Provide technical insight to analyze risks and propose opportunities
  • Establish inspection criteria and processes
  • Work with other cross-functional teams to ensure requirements for new and existing products are maintained
  • Determine methods and procedures on new product designs
  • Determine if alternative materials or processes can be used and document temporary deviations
  • Establish or modify critical dimensions or quality characteristics in drawings for incoming materials
  • Performs process capability analysis (CPK) internally or with vendors to establish if processes are capable of holding quality characteristics
  • Work with engineering to approve and qualify new parts
  • Generate quality alerts for product returns, warranties, recalls or internal defects
  • Attend daily tier meetings to present daily defects and action plans to resolve repeating issues by working in RPS (Rapid Problem Solving) teams with production
  • Help purchasing to make vendor score cards 
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from four-year college or university in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years' experience in quality engineering required
  • 3+ years in supplier management and auditing required
  • 3+ years prior experience working with overseas vendors
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 10%-25% of the year
  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple manufacturing process such as CNC, casting, forging, stamping, injection molding
  • Knowledge and experience working with aluminum, steel, plastic and textiles
  • Demonstrated competency in complex problem solving
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data, drawings, and statistical data
  • Ability to assess issues and determine root cause
  • Ability to write reports and summarize information

  • Knowledge of Lean principles (5S, Standard Work. One-piece flow, Cellular manufacturing, Kanban, Poka yoke, Visual Management, etc.)
